Maxwell 11 – Lower Lake 2 (3/3)
Maxwell 3 – Paradise 4 (3/4)
Maxwell 23 – Anderson 1 (3/4)
Maxwell 3 – Willows 0 (3/7)

Colusa’s Gio Velasquez slides safely into home during the RedHawks’ 6-12 loss to Mesa Verde on Mar. 5.

Last week was a busy one for the Panthers who played their first game of the 2026 season in Lower Lake before making their way to Los Molinos for the Glenn Cox Tournament.

In Lower Lake, Maxwell was the beneficiary of nine free passes as it had six different players collect hits.

Wyatt Roach went three innings on the hill issuing just one hit and striking out four, while Luke Pearson and Levi Velasquez each tossed an inning in relief, fanning three apiece.

However, things got tougher in the opener in Los Molinos as the Panthers were edged by Paradise.

Alex Krug led the way at the plate going 2 for 4 with Roach driving in two runs.

Yet, they came back with a vengeance, taking their frustrations out on Anderson by pounding out 13 hits and making the Cubs pay for walking 13 Maxwell batters.

Lucas Bowen went 3 for 5, Colt Montgomery was 2 for 3, while Krug and Roach each ended the day with four RBI.

On the mound, Vincent Orozco struck out six in four innings of work before giving way to Louie Minutti who closed out the final frame.

In the tournament finale, the Panthers allowed Willows just a single hit although no other information was available.

Maxwell (3-1) hosted East Nicolaus on Tuesday before opening play in its home tournament that runs Thursday through Saturday.

Colusa 7 – Mesa Verde 8 (3/3)
Colusa 6 – Mesa Verde 12 (3/5)

A preseason series with Mesa Verde (Citrus Heights) did not go the RedHawks’ way as they dropped both games to the Mavericks.

Going to extras in the first game, Mesa Verde walked it off in the bottom of the eighth to edge visiting Colusa.

Mason Jennings finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, with Dane Codorniz picking up a pair of hits as well.

Returning home to face the Mavericks two days later, errors made things difficult for the RedHawks, who surrendered seven unearned runs.

Jennings continued to swing a hot bat ending the day 3 for 4 with a double, Rowdy Moore was 2 for 4 with two RBI, while Jacob Pina doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

This week Colusa (1-2) entertained Gridley on Mar. 10 then began play in its own Mike West Invitational on Mar. 13.

Softball

Colusa 9 – Marysville 4 (3/2)
Colusa 0 – River Valley 11 (3/3)

Facing two Sac-Joaquin teams last week the RedHawks finished 1-1 and kept their overall record even at 2-2.

Despite being outhit by Marysville 6-2, Colusa reached base seven times on errors and nine times via walks to emerge with the victory.

Bella Romero went the distance in the circle without yielding an earned run.

Cindel Oliver singled and knocked in a pair of runs, while Natalee Stegall accounted for the only other hit.

In Yuba City to play River Valley the following afternoon, the RedHawks sent just 15 batters to the plate as they were no-hit in a run-run shortened shutout loss.

Looking to get their bats going this week, Colusa was in Redding to take on University Prep on Mar. 10 before returning home for its Randy Watt Tournament, which runs Mar. 13 and 14.

Maxwell 3 – Willows 2 (3/5)
Maxwell 7 – Anderson 8 (3/5)
Maxwell 4 – Los Molinos 19 (3/6)
Maxwell 9 – Burney 9 (3/6)
Maxwell 2 – Mt. Shasta 22 (3/7)

Opening its season at Los Molinos’ Block LM Tournament, the young Panther squad, which has just three upperclassmen, saw a little of everything as they finished 1-3-1.

Senior Bianca Minutti went 7 for 11 with five RBI over the five games, while freshman Emma Miller also ended 7 for 11 in addition to driving in four runs.

Miller picked up the win in her high school debut in the Panthers’ first game of the tournament as she scattered seven hits and struck out eight against Willows.

Maxwell returns home this week to participate in its own tournament, which runs Mar. 12-14.

Pierce 2 – Orland 14 (3/4)
Pierce 18 – Princeton 8 (3/5)

Citlali Acevedo accounted for the Bears’ only hit in their road loss to Orland, but the team came alive when they returned home to square off against Princeton, breaking the game open with an eight-run second inning.

Teagan Murphy finished 4 for 4, Acevedo and Caley Dye collected three hits apiece and Nayeli Lievanos drove in four runs.

In the circle, Murphy went five frames striking out five and did not issue an earned run.

For Princeton, in just its first outing of the season, Sissy Winn picked up a pair of hits to lead the Eagles.

Pierce (2-2, 0-1) was in Gridley on Tuesday then headed to Maxwell’s Tournament which runs Thursday through Saturday, while

the Eagles (0-1) played a doubleheader against CORE Butte on Monday.
