Butte College Lands Top Tech Ranking

OROVILLE, CA (MPG) – Butte College’s Associate of Science in Computer Science program has earned the No. 2 ranking in TechGuide’s 2026 Best Associate Degree in Computer Science Programs.

The national ranking recognizes the program’s performance in preparing students for careers in technology. TechGuide based its rankings on data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, which colleges and universities submit each year to the U.S. Department of Education.

TechGuide evaluated admissions selectivity, class size, faculty support, financial aid availability, graduation outcomes and total enrollment.

The recognition places Butte College among the top two-year computer science programs in the country.

While many technology careers require a bachelor’s degree, employers continue to hire candidates with associate degrees for entry-level roles. A two-year degree can provide access to positions in programming, information technology support and related fields.

College officials noted that students who complete the associate degree can apply earned credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Butte College also offers an associate degree for Transfer in Computer Science, which allows students to continue their education at a four-year institution.

The ranking highlights the growing role of community colleges in workforce development, particularly in high-demand technology sectors. It also underscores the value of lower-cost degree pathways for students seeking flexibility while entering the job market.
