COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Colusa County Board of Supervisors selected its leadership for the 2026 term during its annual reorganization, naming District 1 Supervisor Jose Merced Corona as chair and District 5 Supervisor Janice Bell as vice chair.

The transition follows a year of leadership by outgoing Chair Daurice Kalfsbeek Smith, who served in the role throughout 2025. Board members thanked Smith for her leadership and service to county residents during the past year.
Corona previously served as vice chair and now assumes the board’s top leadership position. He is a retired sergeant with the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department and has remained active in public service and community mentorship since leaving law enforcement.
“I am truly honored to step into the role of chair,” Corona said, adding that he plans to build on the progress the board has made.
Corona said fiscal responsibility will remain a central focus during his term. He said the board must carefully manage public funds while continuing to invest in public safety, infrastructure and services that support residents countywide.

“My primary focus this year will be ensuring that we remain fiscally responsible stewards of the public’s resources,” Corona said. He added that continued investment in safety, infrastructure and community well-being remains essential.
Corona also said transparency and collaboration will guide his approach as chair.
“I am committed to a transparent and collaborative process,” Corona said, noting that board decisions should reflect the values and needs of District 1 and the county as a whole.
Bell will serve as vice chair, assisting with board meetings and representing Colusa County at state and regional meetings as needed. She represents District 5 and has served multiple terms on the board.
Both Corona and Bell are up for reelection this year. Their current elected terms on the Board of Supervisors end in 2027.
