We’ve been in our California nest for a couple of weeks now.
We love being here with family and friends who have become family.
This week pal Gary visited from Georgia. Having him stay with us and enjoying time with him reminded me how much I miss him. I made breakfast for him and our long-time friend Carolan. It was great to have the three of us together again.
Back in the day our little group of friends did a lot together. We always supported local events and usually attended together. I miss those days.
For the moment we are enjoying the opportunities we have here.
While I appreciate the conveniences of being here, and I like being busy, I miss the North Dakota lifestyle and my kids big and small.
I don’t miss the snow and especially the dreaded ice. However, winter in Northern California is cold. Wet cold is colder than dry cold in North Dakota. The technician who checked my eyes yesterday had just moved here from South Dakota. She agreed. She was cold.
On a drive to Chico yesterday we drove through miles of walnut orchards along the river. Husband Tom said he hadn’t known before the beauty of this part of California. I agreed, but knew as a child growing up here, I hadn’t appreciated it as much as I do now.
It’s good to learn the blessings of your surroundings.
Life is good today.
