COLUSA, CA. (MPG) — The Colusa County Department of Public Works has begun the design phase for the long anticipated reconstruction of Sites Lodoga Road, a major east west route connecting the Sites area with the community of Lodoga.
Public Works Director Colt Esenwein said the project represents a significant step forward after years of identified need.
“This roadway has been on our list for a long time,” Esenwein said. “We are now in a position to begin the technical work that moves the project toward full reconstruction.”
As part of the initial design and data collection phase, a consultant hired by the county will conduct ground penetrating radar testing along the entire length of the road. The testing will measure pavement thickness and subsurface conditions to support engineering decisions.
“The radar allows us to see what is happening beneath the surface without cutting into the road,” Esenwein said. “It gives us continuous data along the corridor instead of relying on isolated samples.”
The testing will be performed using a truck mounted radar unit that will make multiple passes along the roadway. Esenwein said residents may notice the vehicle operating in the area in the coming weeks.
“People may see the truck traveling the road several times as we collect data,” he said. “That activity is a normal part of this phase of the project.”
The information collected will support a full depth reclamation design, which allows engineers to reuse existing roadway materials where possible. Esenwein said this approach helps extend available funding.
“Our goal is to improve as much of the roadway as we can with the funds available,” Esenwein said.
The project will be funded through the SB 1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account. For more information, residents may contact the Colusa County Department of Public Works at 530 458 0466.
