Princeton’s Cristian Angel had 11 points in the Eagles’ Jan. 6 loss to Paradise Adventist.

Boys:

Princeton 49 – Paradise Adventist 78 (1/6)
Princeton 44 – Providence 61 (1/9)

Making the trip to play a Pioneer League game against PAA, the young Eagles squad fell short despite a 21-point performance from Emmanuel Andrade.

Nate Ramirez tossed in 15 points, Cristian Angel finished with 11 points and Erick Haro pulled down nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to get past the second place Cougars.

Princeton hosted Providence (Orland) on Jan. 9, but provided no statistics prior to the Pioneer Review print deadline.

Still looking for its first PL victory, the Eagles (1-10, 0-3) were in Herlong on Tuesday before returning home to face Westwood tonight.

Maxwell 42 – Paradise Adventist 45 (1/7)
Maxwell 36 – Live Oak 60 (1/9)

Things did not go the Panthers way in their final two preseason games as after losing a close one at home to PAA, they suffered a defeat on the road at the hands of Live Oak.

Against PAA, Alex Krug finished with 10 points and six rebounds to pace Maxwell, while Tanner Vierra pitched in with nine points and Levi Velasquez corralled seven boards.

Two nights later, Panther turnovers were too much to overcome in the lopsided loss to the Lions.

Karter Burt had a team high 10 points.

Entering into Mid-Valley League play this week, the Panthers (8-6) travelled to Hamilton City on Jan. 13 ahead of its rivalry game at home against Williams tonight.

Pierce’s Damian Ambriz poured in 26 points in the Bears’ win over Willows on Jan. 9.

Pierce 47 – Biggs 57 (1/5)
Pierce 76 – Willows 38 (1/9)

Following a preseason loss in Biggs to start last week, Pierce bounced back to rout Willows in its Sacramento Valley League opener.

Although statistics from the game against the Wolverines were not made available, Damian Ambriz dropped 26 against the Honkers on a night where all eight Bears broke into the scoring column.

Devin Garcia and JR Figueroa went for 12 and 11 points respectively.

This week was a busy one for Pierce (5-9) who was in Winters on Monday, entertained Paradise on Wednesday and squares off against county rival Colusa at home tonight.

Pierce’s Destany Martinez had a double-double in the Bears’ SVL opener against Willows on Jan. 7.

Girls:

Maxwell 36 – Paradise Adventist 32 (1/7)
Maxwell 38 – Live Oak 36 (1/9)

Maxwell ended the preseason on a high note as it emerged with two narrow victories.

At home to start last week, Miyah Reyes led the way against PAA finishing with 18 points, while Ruby Herrera chipped in with 12 points.

In Live Oak, Herrera and Joceline Montero had 10 points apiece as the Panthers held off the Lions.

Maxwell (9-8) looks to build on its momentum when it opens Mid-Valley League play on Jan. 13 in Hamilton City before returning home to play Williams this evening.

Pierce 35 – Yuba City 60 (1/6)
Pierce 51 – Willows 27 (1/7)

After closing out the preseason with a loss in Yuba City, the Bears brought an end to a four-game skid with a victory at home against Sacramento Valley League foe Willows.

Highlights in the loss to Yuba City were a 20-point effort from Rylie Delepierre and a 10-rebound night from Nita Rodriguez.

Nonetheless, Pierce found the going much easier against visiting Willows as Delepierre logged a team-high 18 points.

Jaslene Condrey added 12 points, Destany Martinez finished with a double-double that included 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Rodriguez cleared away another 10 boards.

On the road in Winters on Jan. 12 and Paradise on Jan. 14, the Bears (7-10) closes out the week tonight at home against Colusa.

Princeton 20 – Paradise Adventist 35 (1/6)

Struggles continued for the Eagles last week as they came up short to PAA in a Pioneer League contest.

Guadalupe Espinoza ended the game with 10 points and six rebounds, while Reyna Sullivan accounted for eight boards.

Princeton (2-10, 1-2) made the trek to Herlong on Tuesday and squares off against Westwood at home tonight.
