COLUSA, Calif. (MPG) — The Colusa County Office of Education swore in Charles “Chuck” Wayman on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, as interim Colusa County superintendent of schools, replacing outgoing superintendent Mike West.
Wayman steps into the one-year appointment after the County Board of Education selected him earlier this month to guide the office through the transition until voters choose a new superintendent. West retired at the end of December after leading the office since 2019.
Wayman has worked for the County Office of Education since 2004, first as a special education teacher in Arbuckle before moving into administration. He later served as director of special education, assistant superintendent of special education, and most recently deputy superintendent of student services, overseeing children’s services, educational services and special education.
In addition to taking the oath of office, Wayman has filed his intent to run for the superintendent position in the June primary.
Wayman has said his focus as interim superintendent will include strengthening support for school districts, stabilizing special education costs, and expanding adult education and mental health programs across Colusa County.
