COLUSA, CA (MPG) — Registration is open for the second annual Colusa County Science & Engineering Fair, set for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at the Colusa County Office of Education’s Education Village in Williams.
The fair is organized by CCOE’s Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability team in partnership with Colusa High School STEM teacher Benjamin Haney. The event invites students from across the county to explore science and engineering through hands-on projects that highlight creativity and problem-solving.
Last year’s fair showcased local talent. Eloise Duran, a ninth grader at Colusa High School, earned first place. Colusa High School classmates Kevin Saucedo and Jaskaran Grewal received second place, and Jayleen Piña, a sixth grader from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, placed third.
CCOE and Schools First Federal Credit Union also recognized three educators for Scientific Excellence in 2025: Haney of Colusa High School, Natalie Wilson of Maxwell Elementary and Middle School, and Samantha Vann of Arbuckle Elementary School. The awards honored their support of student inquiry and innovation.
For the 2026 fair, students in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade will take part in a noncompetitive showcase. Students in grades six through eight and nine through 12 may choose either a showcase format or a judged competition. Organizers expect a wide range of projects that reflect students’ curiosity about the world around them.
Families and educators who want to register a student or child for the fair may contact Veronica Sandoval at vsandoval@ccoe.net or Lexi Cabral at acabral@ccoe.net for more information.
