Friends of the Library Host Author Christiane Wear

COLUSA, CA (MPG) — The Friends of the Colusa County Library welcomed author and health professional Christiane Wear for an evening talk at the Colusa Library on Sept. 24, drawing a small group of community members interested in her work.

Wear, of Chico, has spent more than 30 years in the health and wellness field as a chiropractor, health nurse and wellness coach. She told the audience her writing career began almost by accident.

“I thought about what I was going to do with my extra time as an empty nester,” she said. “Through my coaching community, they kept telling me to write a cookbook because I kept posting recipes.”

The result was Fresh & Flavorful: Lean & Green Cookbook, a collection of low-carb, low-fat and gluten-free meals that reflect her coaching approach to healthier living. The book promotes balanced eating in a way that she says is both accessible and practical for families.

Wear has also co-written Adulting Skills 101 Unplugged with her daughter, Merced. The book covers basic life skills for young adults, offering guidance on managing money, preparing simple meals, balancing school and work schedules, and navigating job interviews.

“Adulting can be overwhelming, but this book is about making it manageable,” Wear explained. “We wanted to create something that helps people feel confident.”

The Friends of the Library, a nonprofit support group for the Colusa County Library system, organizes events such as this to encourage community engagement with reading and lifelong learning. Attendees said the intimate setting gave them a chance to connect with the author in a personal way.

Wear’s books are available on bookshop.org, an online bookseller that supports independent bookstores. Proceeds from local purchases benefit The Bookworm, a used bookstore operated by the Friends at 440 Market St. in Colusa.
