PARADISE, CA (MPG) – It came down to the wire, but the RedHawks left “the Ridge” last Thursday with an emotional 5-4 victory over the host Bobcats.
Evenly matched, the two teams split the singles matches with Colusa getting wins from No. 3 Charlotte Stever (6-3, 6-2), No. 4 Ilyali Cruz (6-1, 6-1) and No. 6 Lizeth Ramirez (6-2, 6-6, (9-7)) to set up the drama on the doubles’ courts.

Having lost the No. 1 doubles match, the No. 2 pair of Stever and Ramirez downed their opponents 8-2 to keep things even and leave the outcome in the hands of the No. 3 duo of Cruz and her new partner, freshman Vivian Trejo.
However, things went the RedHawks’ way in what Coach Melissa Michalk described as a “nailbiter” as Cruz and Trejo Triumphed 8-6.
Prior to its match in Paradise, Colusa defeated Willows 7-2 on Sept. 15.
In singles’ play, No. 1 Janell Garcia (6-2, 6-2), No. 2 Emily Lopez (6-2, 6-1) both prevailed, as did Stever (6-1, 6-2), Cruz (6-1, 6-0) and No. 5 Perla Olazo (6-3, 4-6, 10-8).
Stever and Ramirez (8-2) along with Cruz and Ximena Dominguez (8-4) logged doubles’ wins.
Now 3-0 in Sacramento Valley League play, the RedHawks squared off against Shasta Charter Academy in Redding on Sept. 23 and were on the road in Durham on Sept. 25.
