WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) — The Sacramento Valley Museum has received a Groundwork Grant through the California State Library’s “Ready or Not: California Cultural Heritage Disaster Preparedness Project.”
The program is administered in partnership with Myriad Consulting and Training and funded by the State of California. It provides support to museums, libraries and private collections to strengthen preservation and disaster readiness.
Elijah Rodriguez, museum curator, said this is the second time the museum applied for the grant and the first time it has been awarded.
“I have been waiting on this grant for a long time,” Rodriguez said. “I am excited to implement the plans we have.”
The funding will allow the museum to install window tinting on its west-facing windows to help maintain indoor temperatures and reduce ultraviolet exposure to collection items. Plans also include updating security services, purchasing archival supplies, acquiring a disaster spill kit and taking courses on preservation in a museum setting.
The museum announced the award in a recent statement and said it would share updates as the projects move forward.
