Williams Cross Country Off and Running

GRASS VALLEY, CA (MPG) – Yellowjacket cross country runners are testing themselves in the early season having participated in the Oakmont Invitational at Johnson Springview Park in Rocklin on Aug. 30 prior to last Saturday’s Nevada Union Invitational.

Among the 50 teams and over 1600 athletes in Rocklin, Phillip Santillan set a personal record in the varsity boys 4,000 meters with a time of 16.29.30, younger brother Manuel Santillan ran in the sophomore boy’s race, crossing the line 26th in a field of 203 with a season’s best mark of 14:26.30, and Fernando Rivera (19:14.90) made his debut appearance.

Angelly Garcia and Dinorah Terrazazas competed in the JV girls 4,000 meters finishing with times of 24:31.50 and 24:39.80 respectively.

In Grass Valley on Sept. 6, Manuel Santillan earned a medal in the small school frosh/soph two-mile contest, finishing fourth with a personal best of 13:16.40, while Leonardo Navarro posted a time of 21:52.80.

Phillip Santillan (22:50.00) and Rivera (25:30.00) ran in the boys’ varsity five-kilometer race.

 Four ‘Jacket girls including Zamara Saavedra Jauregui (31:34.40), Garcia (32:17.40), Terrazazas (35:04.20) and Kelly Luna (38:54.11) were among the field in the varsity 5K.

Williams returns to action on Sept. 24 at the Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area.
