COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s girls tennis team remained unbeaten thus far after posting wins over both Oroville teams last week.
Starting off on the road against Las Plumas on Sept. 2, the RedHawks held off the Thunderbirds to emerge from what Coach Melissa Michalk described as a “nailbiter” with a 6-3 victory.
Setting the tone was Colusa’s No.1, Janell Garcia, who came from a set down to ultimately prevail 5-7, 7-5, 11-9.

Down the ladder, No. 4 Charlotte Stever (6-3, 6-3) and No. 5 Lizeth Ramirez (6-4, 6-0) both defeated their respective opponents.
Yet, it was the doubles matches that sealed the deal for the RedHawks as they were victorious in all three.
Garcia and Ilyali Cruz won a hard-fought 8-8 (10-5) bout, Emily Lopez and Andrea Lopez triumphed 8-5, while Stever and Ramirez claimed an 8-2 win.
Returning home on Sept. 4, Colusa had no trouble with Oroville High School’s team, sweeping past the Tigers 9-0.
Garcia wasted little time dismissing her opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 Emily Lopez won a marathon match 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
Rounding out singles play, Cruz (6-1,6-1), Stever (6-3, 6-2), Ramirez (6-3, 6-3) and Ximena Dominguez (6-3, 3-6, 10-4) in the third through sixth spots each recorded wins.
On the double’s courts, Garcia and Lopez closed out their match 8-4, Ramirez and Stever held on by a score of 8-5, while Cruz and Dominguez eased to an 8-0 victory.
Colusa looked to keep its win streak alive on Tuesday when it entertained Durham in its first league match.
