Maxwell Hosts First Harvest Festival

Maxwell, CA (MPG) — Maxwell held its first Harvest Festival on Aug. 16 at Maxwell High School, an event organizers hope will become an annual tradition.

“The event went really well,” said event coordinator, Brian Moniz. “The community support was phenomenal.”

The daylong festival began with a barbecue competition for first responders and a Dutch oven contest open to the public. Categories included chili and desserts, though organizers enforced a strict “no beans in the chili” rule.

Attendees browsed booths from clothing vendors, local organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, and others. Some displays included vintage tractors.

The evening featured a grand rodeo entry in the main arena and a flyover, followed by bronc and bull riding presented by Silver Bridge Rodeo Company.

Community members responded positively on social media.

“We were especially happy to be there during the grand entry with a very special flyover Colusa style,” said Sherry Maltby. “The rough stock and the cowboys were exciting to watch. The vendors seemed busy, and the weather made it a pleasant evening.”

Vendors also reported success.

“Yesterday was absolutely amazing at the Maxwell Harvest Festival,” said Reagan Spesert of Stoney Creek Leather Co. “I had a great vendor set up. Another big shoutout to BM Bar Meats for putting on a solid rodeo and thank you to everyone for supporting my business.”

Organizers said the bull and bronc riding portion of the event was well received and planning is already underway for next year’s festival.

“I want to give a big thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event,” said Moniz.
