VFW Post 2441 Seeking Teacher Nominations

COLUSA, CA (MPG) — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2441 is accepting nominations for the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award. The program honors elementary, middle, and high school teachers who promote civic responsibility, patriotism, and appreciation for American history and democratic values.

One teacher will be selected at each grade level, elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12), for national recognition. Teachers and their schools will receive official VFW citations.

Any current, certified or licensed teacher in grades K-12 is eligible. Nominations may be submitted by the teacher, other educators, supervisors, family members, students, or community members. Nominees should submit a one-page résumé, up to five pages of supporting documentation, references, and a head-and-shoulders photo.

The deadline to submit nominations to Post 2441 is November 1, 2025.

“Teachers play a critical role in shaping the next generation’s sense of civic duty and patriotism,” said Sandra Forney, Commander for the VFW Post #2441, “This award is our way of recognizing those who go above and beyond in fostering pride in our country.”
