COLUSA, CA (MPG) – As the back-to-school season approaches, one local mother and community leader is on a mission to ensure that every child in Colusa County starts the school year prepared and confident.
Jillian Rohleder, a board member of the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce and an employee at Colusa Industrial Properties, has launched her second annual Backpack Drive with an ambitious goal to raise $7,000 to fill and distribute 500 backpacks stocked with essential school supplies for students in need.
Rohleder, who is also a mother of three children attending James Burchfield Primary School this Fall, says her motivation comes from both personal experience and years of working with underprivileged youth and children in the foster care system.
“I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to afford even the basics during the back-to-school season, especially with multiple children,” said Rohleder. “Last year, we raised $2,000 and filled 100 backpacks, but the need is much greater.”
After speaking with Mike West of the Colusa County Office of Education (CCOE), Rohleder learned that the actual number of children in need hovers closer to 500. A realization that spurred her to expand her efforts this year. Community members interested in contributing can:
- Donate school supplies at designated drop-off locations
- Purchase raffle tickets through the Rotary Club of Colusa
- Make monetary donations directly by contacting Jillian Rohleder at (530) 458-2118 or jrohleder@cipcorp.com

As Jillian Rohleder continues her heartfelt mission, she encourages everyone in Colusa County to step forward. “Together, we can make sure no child in our community starts the school year at a disadvantage. With your help, we can fill every backpack and every heart with hope.”
