COLFAX, CA (MPG) – As they prepare to defend their Northern Section Division III title, the injury-plagued Pierce boy’s track team faced some preseason competition from the Sac-Joaquin Section and came away with a fourth place finish at the Colfax Invitational meet last Friday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Bears in the hurdle events was JR Figueroa, who ended the day with a pair of first place finishes, setting a personal record in the 110 meter race with a time of 17.24, then also posted a winning time of 44.80 in the 300 meters.
Jonathan Vazquez Hernandez finished second in the long jump with a season’s best of 20.0 feet.
Pierce also got noteworthy contributions from Nate Macintosh, who was third in the 200 meters and set a season record with a time of 23.57, while in the 3200 Gavin Guynn crossed the line third with a mark of 11:41.68.
In the varsity girl’s division, the Bears took third place in the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 54.00 behind a young quartet that included Charlotte Reyna, Yarely Ruiz, Itzamar Aguirre and Grace Szmurlo
This week Pierce was in Winters on Wednesday for the first Sacramento Valley League meet.
