Colusa Softball Back on Track

RedHawk seniors Abril Guzman, Ava Garcia and Addison Lay have led their team to an 8-2 overall record so far this
season.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Having been edged in its final two preseason games against River Valley and West Valley respectively, the RedHawks bounced back and opened Sacramento Valley League play by sweeping the season series from Durham.

Playing the first game at home on Mar. 25, short-handed Colusa needed some late inning heroics to get past the Trojans and got it from Aliah Ramirez, who hit a walk-off single to plate the winning run as the RedHawks rallied from three runs down to claim the 8-7 victory.

It was the culmination of a big day at the plate for the senior, who finished 3-4 with a double and three RBI.

Also swinging a hot bat for the RedHawks was Ava Garcia, as she went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple, while additionally going the distance in the circle where she fanned 11 and yielded seven hits.

Things were somewhat easier three days later when Colusa made the trip to Durham and cruised to a 9-2 win by jumping ahead early and never looking back.

Again it was the RedHawk seniors leading the way as Addison Lay ended the game 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI, Garcia doubled twice and Elli Santana picked up a pair of hits as well.

Colusa’s Aliah Ramirez gets a high five from Coach Eric Lay during a game last month. Ramirez walked it off for the RedHawks in their game against Durham on Mar. 25.

Garcia also got it done in the circle tossing a four-hit complete game and recording 11 more strikeouts.

Now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the SVL, Colusa was slated to host Winters on Apr. 1, then hit the road to complete the series with the Warriors this afternoon.
