Colusa Girls Soccer Falls in Semis

HAMILTON CITY, CA (MPG) – A short-handed Colusa squad put forth a game effort against No. 2 Hamilton City in the semifinal round of the Northern Section CIF Division III playoffs on Feb. 25, but came up just short in the match that ended 2-3, bringing an end to the RedHawks’ season.

Colusa’s Itzel Cruz (5) recorded a brace in the RedHawks’ 2-3 loss to Hamilton City in the semifinal round of the NSCIF D3 playoffs on Feb. 25.

Sophomore Itzel Cruz accounted for both of No. 3 Colusa’s goals, boosting her total to 14 in 11 matches this year.

It was a season of growth for the RedHawks (8-9-2) who were under the direction of first year head coach Rene Martinez.

In assessing the progress the team made, Martinez was pleased with what he saw saying, “I am thankful for this opportunity. It was a rough start, but we worked hard as a team and developed our game plan week by week. We made lots of great memories and overall it was great to watch our athletic growth. Those two things are what I think sports are all about.”
