RedHawk Girls Advance to D4 Semis

Colusa’s Danica Chavez dribbles up court in the RedHawks’ 52-40 win over Yreka on Feb. 20.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s girls basketball team ran its win streak to 13-straight last week after the No. 2 seeded RedHawks downed No. 7 Yreka 52-40 in a Northern Section CIF Division IV quarterfinal game played on Feb. 20.

Meanwhile, the RedHawks ran the floor well, capitalizing on turnovers and scoring in transition.

Danica Chavez scored a game-high 18 points and Peyton Miller finished with 17 points to lead Colusa, which had 10 different players break into the scoring column on the night.

The RedHawks’ McKenna Azbill was a force in the paint as No. 2 Colusa downed No. 7 Yreka in a NSCIF D4 playoff game on Feb. 20.
Colusa’s Peyton Miller lays in two of her 17 points as the RedHawks downed Yreka to advance to the semifinal round of the NSCIF D4 playoffs.

With their victory, the RedHawks (22-6) took on another unfamiliar opponent this week in No. 3 Orland (22-7) in a contest played on Feb. 25 at home.

Whichever team emerged with the victory punched their ticket to the section title game on Mar. 1 at Butte College against either No. 1 University Prep or No. 4 West Valley.
