Pierce Girls Ousted from D4 Basketball Playoffs

Pierce’s Charlie Wayman finished with 11 points in the No. 5 Bears’ first round playoff win over No. 12 Live Oak on Feb. 18.

COTTONWOOOD, CA (MPG) – Having advanced to the second round of the Northern Section Division IV playoffs with a 58-26 win over Live Oak on Feb. 18, the Pierce varsity girls basketball team saw their season come to an end on Feb. 20 in Cottonwood with a 41-51 loss to West Valley.

Starting off last week at home against the No. 12 seeded Lions, the No. 5 seeded Bears were in the driver’s seat throughout, as nine different players broke into the scoring column.

Jaslene Condrey led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds, Charlie Wayman tossed in 11 points, while Leah Charter and Rylie Delepierre finished with eight points apiece.

Also making a noteworthy contribution was Nita Rodriguez, who grabbed 13 boards and added seven points.

However, things didn’t quite go the Bear’s way in their game against the No. 4 seeded Eagles as despite taking a 10-point lead into the locker room at halftime, they cooled off in the second half and were outscored 33-13 to see the game slip away.

The Bears’ Nita Rodriguez pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds as Pierce downed Live Oak 58-26 on Feb. 18 in the first round of the NSCIF D4 playoffs.

Magali Jauregui dropped in a team-high 13 points, Condrey and Destany Martinez added nine points apiece, while Charter did her part on the boards collecting nine rebounds.

It was a solid season for Pierce, who despite not having a senior on the roster, finished with an overall record of 18-10 and should the same group return next year, could spell trouble for their opponents.
