Being laid up as they say, I’ve watched a lot of news in the last couple of weeks. I’ve been forced to face the trauma of our world these days.
I’ve watched news reports of potential hope for our nation. Also, I’ve seen outlandish behaviors by our so-called leaders.
Frozen tundra is striking the east and blazing inferno is overtaking the west.
Early morning news today captured for a moment the spirit and pride of America. I watched a man surrounded by flames, climb a flagpole to rescue an American flag. He literally climbed the pole, cut loose the Flag and rolled it into a ball to protect it from touching the ground. That is as it should be.
For a moment it was a display of American pride as it once was seen. I miss those days.
As a first grader in Grimes, CA we began each morning with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. That is no longer done in many schools.
At lunch time, our teacher; Miss Lyla Lee Wilsey (Sankey) lined us up single file. We folded our little hands and recited the God is good blessing of our anticipated meal.
Then came political correctness. That too was gone.
I know not everyone will agree with me, but to me those are losses of important lessons for our kids.
I can’t help but wonder if we have tried too hard to fix things. In the process we may have ripped away too many things that simply worked.
One day at a time I hope and pray that we will reclaim some of the values we once held dear.
Since I missed the gift giving part of Christmas this year, my children and grandchildren came here last Sunday to open gifts. I still got to enjoy the smiles on each kid’s face as they opened their gifts.
No matter what day it was, the blessing was still there.
Life is good today.
