Colusa County Officials Take Oath

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – A mass swearing-in ceremony was held on Jan. 6 for Colusa County officials elected, reelected, and appointed in 2024.

Randy Wilson, of Maxwell, was elected District 4 Supervisor in the March 5 primary election, sweeping more than 50 percent of the vote in a contest with two other candidates.

Colusa County Superior Court Judge Brendan Farrell administers the oath of office to new District 4 Supervisor Randy Wilson on Jan. 6, 2025, in the upstairs courtroom of the historic Colusa County Courthouse.

Colusa County Superior Court Judge Brendan Farrell, new to the bench in October, administered his first oath of office to Wilson in the upstairs courtroom of the historic Colusa County Courthouse, along with District 2 Supervisor Daurice Kalfsbeek Smith, who was elected in March to her second term in office, and District 3 Supervisor Kent Boes, who was elected to his third term. Both ran for reelection without a challenge.

In the same ceremony on Monday, Farrell administered swore in new Colusa County Treasurer/Tax Collector Cindy Dillard and new Assessor Bob Buckner, who the Board of Supervisors appointed to replace Dan Charter and Arnie Gross, who retired midway through their terms.

Dillard served as second in command to Charter, who was elected in 1986 and was the longest-serving elected tax collector in the state.

Dillard came from the banking sector and managed all operations of the department for the past eight years during Charter’s long absences from the office.

Buckner served as the Assistant Assessor under Gross, who first ascended to the elected position 10 years ago after serving Colusa County citizens in the department for three decades.

Buckner has more than 30 years of experience in property appraisals.

Dillard and Buckner will be eligible to run for election to retain their positions in the 2026 midterm election when the primary election will be held in June rather than March.

Wilson was the only elected official sworn in Monday to face a contested election in 2024. He filled the seat vacated on Dec. 31 by Gary Evans, of Stonyford, who served 24 years and did not seek reelection.

Wilson, a business owner, grew up in Maxwell, attending Maxwell schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, before attending Yuba College.

Wilson worked in the local agriculture industry for 40 years and started his own agriculture application business in 2003.
