COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Since 1997, North State media writers have selected an All-Northern Section Volleyball Team and now over 25 years later, two more Colusa County standouts in Pierce’s Macey Myers and Colusa’s Addison Lay have added their names to the list, continuing the tradition of excellence in those programs.
It was an historic accomplishment for Myers, the Bears’ libero, as she now has the distinction of being the first volleyball player in the county to earn first team honors.
A stalwart in the back row during her career, this year she was a driving force in Pierce’s run into the section title game and the second round of the CIF State Tournament, finishing with 530 digs, which was second in the section, 574 service receptions and 45 aces in her final season for the Bears.
Taking on a greater leadership role as one of her squad’s three seniors, Myers was unflappable on defense, never letting the moment get too big as she facilitated the transition to the attack.
Myers now tops the list of Bear players earning All-Section recognition, one that also includes Callie Muniz (2019) who was named to the second team, along with third team selections Allison Ornbaun (2011), Mariah Diaz (2013), Lauren Ornbaun (2017) and Emily Erkhe (2019).
For her part, Lay, who was named to the third team, did it all for the RedHawks, ending her senior season second in the section with 422 kills.
In addition to hitting at a .316 clip, Lay also served 87 aces and handed out 539 assists as Colusa also ventured into the second round of the state championships.
With her selection, Lay now joins six other RedHawks that were named to either the second or third teams over the years including Teale Stacey (2014), Annie Lay (2017-2019), Hannah Taylor (2019), Reese Roper (2021), Karsyn Gwinnup (2022) and Elle Faris (2023).
