What Makes You Look?

Are there movies, songs or even commercials that make stop to watch or listen?

I have a list. Sometimes we just need those brief feel-good moments.

Movies: The Waterboy, Blues Brothers, and the dance scene from Michael top my list.

In fact, anytime I see John Travolta dance, I’ll watch. There’s a holiday credit card commercial featuring Travolta as Santa in Saturday Night Fever mode I stop and watch anytime I see it air.

Our world has been challenging at best for a while, so the occasional feel-good moment is welcomed.

As we gather as friends or families for Thanksgiving, I hope that each of us will have those feel-good moments to recall. Even in challenging times we have blessings to count.

My recent trip back to California brought to mind a lot of memories. I recalled my days there growing up in that big southern family of ours. I was reminded of the blessings those family members brought to my life as a child, teen and adult. Never once did I feel unwanted, unloved or alone.

In my first Thanksgiving after my late husband David had passed, I was once again in California. Daughter Tiffany and I had moved back to my grandparents’ farmhouse. Just as the grandparents had done time and again, we hosted the family at that tiny cottage for the holidays. For some reason it didn’t feel crowded. It felt right. It felt like the blessing we knew that it would.

As we gather this year I am anticipating a time of happiness. We are thankful our daughters and granddaughters plus our two bonus daughters will be with us.

Traditionally we each voice what we are thankful for before dinner. I need only look around the table to see an abundance of gratitude in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Remember life can be good today.
