RedHawks Fall in NSCIF Tennis Semis

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – An exceptional season came to an end for the Colusa girl’s tennis team as they fell 1-8 to visiting Yreka in the semifinal round of the Northern Section CIF team tournament.

The RedHawks’ Ashley Perez waits to receive serve in Colusa’s match with Yreka in the NSCIF team semifinals on Oct. 22.

Undefeated in 15 tries going into the match against the Miners, the RedHawks’ Janell Garcia was the only player to earn a win in the contest played on Oct. 24.

Nonetheless, to get to the second round, Colusa had to first get past Anderson, which it did, downing the Cubs 6-3 in match held on Oct 22.

Colusa’s Olivia Nair reaches for a shot at the net during a doubles match against Yreka on Oct. 24.

Starting off strong in singles, the RedHawks captured four of the six matches, which included wins by No. 2 Savanna Rochette (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Garcia (6-0, 6-2), No. 4 Ashley Perez (3-6, 7-5, 6-2) and No. 5 Miranda Perez (5-7, 6-3, 6-4).

On the doubles courts, the duo of Rochette and Olivia Nair prevailed 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, while Garcia and Ashley Perez cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Colusa’s Savanna Rochette returns a shot in her doubles match during the 2024 NSCIF team tournament.

Although the back-to-back Sacramento Valley League champions have been eliminated from the team competition, Rochette, Nair and Garcia will participate in the section’s singles tournament, which begins on Nov. 2.
