RedHawk Tennis Improves to 7-0

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s tennis team remained unbeaten in seven tries this season as it shutout both Durham and Gridley by scores of 9-0 last week.

In Durham on Sept. 10, the RedHawk ladder dropped just seven games all day long as they swept their singles matches with the Trojans.

Colusa’s Olivia Nair won both her singles matches last week against Durham and Gridley.

No. 1 Olivia Nair (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Savanna Rochette (6-0, 6-1), No. 3 Vianey Farias (6-3, 6-0), No. 4 Ashley Perez (6-0, 6-1), No. 5 Janell Garcia (6-0, 6-0) and No. 6 Miranda Perez (6-1, 6-1) each won in straight sets.

It was the same story in doubles as the pairs of Nair and Rochette, Farias and Garcia and Perez and Perez all won 8-0, giving Colusa its first Sacramento Valley League win of the season.

Returning home on Sept. 11, Colusa proved to be an ungracious host as it downed Gridley in a non-conference match.

For the second day in a row the top six singles players, including Nair (6-4, 6-4), Rochette (6-0, 6-0), Farias (6-0, 6-0), Ashley Perez (6-0, 6-0), Garcia (6-0, 6-0) and Miranda Perez (6-1, 6-2), each posted victories.

The RedHawks’ Emily Lopez reacts with a smile after a point in a doubles match against Gridley on Sept. 11.

The RedHawks mixed things up in doubles against the Bulldogs, but came away with the same results as the No. 1 duo of Garcia and Lizbet Ayala won 8-2, No.2 Miranda Perez and Emily Lopez downed their competition 8-3, while the No. 3 team of Yali Cruz and Izzy Jimenez prevailed 8-1.

Colusa looked to keep its win streak alive earlier this week when it entertained SVL foes Willows and Paradise on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
