Colusa ran its record to 5-0 in the early season with victories over Corning, Sutter and Marysville last week.

At home against visiting Corning, the RedHawks wasted little time, dispatching the Cardinals by scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-13.

Addison Lay led the charge with 11 kills, 11 assists and three blocks, while Cece Mitchum recorded eight kills and Cindel Oliver ended the match with 12 assists and four aces.

Things got tougher the following evening in Sutter as Colusa needed five sets to finally put away the Huskies 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 15-4.

It was the first two sets dropped by the RedHawks thus far, and to prevail got a monster effort from Lay that included 25 kills, 14 assists, four aces and four blocks.

Mitchum also turned in an admirable performance with 10 kills and 15 digs, as did Peyton Miller with nine kills.

Defensively, Abril Guzman anchored the back row with 43 service receptions and 11 digs, while Olivia Huskey made 12 digs and 17 receptions.

Heading east again on Thursday, Colusa breezed past Marysville 25-18, 25-12, 25-11 as Lay doubled up again with 15 kills and 18 assists.

Mitchum turned in another solid outing with eight kills, while Abby Coronado pitched in with seven.

Oliver handed out 15 assists and accounted for half the RedHawks’ serving aces with eight.

In the back row, Guzman made 10 digs and 15 receptions.

This week is a busy one for Colusa as it played River Valley and Colfax on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively and is currently in Southern California at the Whittier Cardinal Classic.

After suffering a 19-25, 22-25, 25-10, 19-25 home loss to Durham the Panthers traveled to Princeton where they downed the Eagles 25-22, 25-16, 25-21, although no statistics from either match were provided.

Maxwell then made the trip to Paradise where it swept the Cougars for the second time in nine days.

No other information from the match was made available.

The Panthers (7-7) were in Williams on Sep. 3 before returning home to face Winters on Sep. 4.
