Maxwell Softball Closes Out Preseason

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – In its final preseason action the Panthers shutout Princeton last Monday, split a doubleheader with Mt. Shasta last Tuesday, then notched a 16-5 victory over Anderson two days later.

Maxwell’s Bailee Haywood went 3-1 with 35 strikeouts in the circle last week for the Panthers.

At home against the Eagles, Bailee Haywood tossed a one-hit complete game in which she struck out nine as Maxwell cruised to a 13-0 win.

Shelby Dunlap and Teresita Salazar each had a double and a pair of hits, while Olivia Roa also went 2 for 3.

Still, after banging out 10 hits against Princeton, Maxwell struggled at the plate in its first game against visiting Mt. Shasta as they fell 2-10.

Dunlap finished 3 for 4 and Ryann Dennis went 2 for 3 with a triple, while in the circle, Haywood struck out 12, but it wasn’t enough for the Panthers.

Yet, Maxwell came roaring back in the second game beating up on the Bears to record the 13-3 win.

Salazar finished a home run short of the cycle, while Bianca Minutti went 2 for 2.

Haywood also bounced back in the circle, fanning seven.

In its final game last week, the Panthers trounced Anderson 16-5 on the road.

Dennis, Dunlap, Haywood and Ruby Herrera each recorded a pair of hits, while Haywood again handled the pitching duties recording seven strikeouts.

Maxwell (9-5-1) hoped to build on its momentum this week when it traveled to Los Molinos for its Mid-Valley League opener on Tuesday and completed the season series with the Bulldogs at home on Thursday.
