Colusa Girls Soccer Ends Season in Hamilton City

Colusa’s Adamariz Solorio fights for possession of the ball in the RedHawks NSCIF D3 playoff loss in Hamilton City on Feb. 22.

HAMILTON CITY, CA (MGP) – A second half rally by the RedHawks fell short last Thursday evening on the road as they suffered a season ending 2-5 loss to the Braves in the semifinal round of the Northern Section CIF Division III playoffs.

Despite having its chances, No. 3 seeded Colusa found itself down 0-3 at the half, but after No. 2 Hamilton added on one more early in the second half, Melissa Avila cut into the lead with a goal in the 65th minute.

Keeping up the pressure, the RedHawks pulled within two when Adamariz Solorio found the back of the net from long distance in the 75th minute, but that was as close as Colusa would get, as the Braves dashed all hope of a comeback with another score just prior to the final whistle.

It was a game effort by the RedHawks who battled throughout, but with just three seniors and 15 underclassmen on the roster, the lack of experience proved to be a disadvantage.

Colusa’s Braelyn Santana challenges a shot by Hamilton’s Melyn Torres as RedHawk defenders Joanna Rodriguez and Fernanda Avila close in.

Still, Coach Laura Cervantes was pleased with her team’s effort saying, “We’re a young team and nerves were super high, but overall, I’m super proud of how far the young ladies made it.  We are definitely a team to keep an eye out for next year and in the years to come.”

Colusa completed the season with an overall record of 8-10-4 and as the third-place team in the Sacramento Valley League.
