A rivalry match on a cold evening in Arbuckle ended in disappointment for the RedHawks as a handball in the box allowed the Bears to draw even after a penalty kick in a Sacramento Valley League match.
Kenneth Arias put Colusa on top in the first half with a goal while Cesar Cruz accounted for a second half score.
Finishing last week in Live Oak, Jesse Medina gave the RedHawks another early lead, but the Lions put two in the back of the net in the second half to frustrate Colusa for the second straight game.
This week, the RedHawks (4-6-1, 0-1-1) looked for their first SVL win with a match in Winters on Jan. 16, then returned home to host Willows on Jan. 18.

Pierce 1 – Winters 3 (1/11)

Goals by Daniel Bustamante and Adrian Durate propelled Pierce to a draw against the visiting RedHawks last Monday, but the team could not hold off Winters in its second game last week as it fell 1-3 on the road.
Alejandro Escobar recorded the Bears’ only goal against the Warriors.
Pierce (2-6-1, 0-2-1) was in Los Molinos on Tuesday to take on the Bulldogs.
Maxwell 3 – Hamilton City 3 (1/8)
Maxwell 7 – Durham 1 (1/11)
Taking to the pitch for the first time this season, the Panthers played to a draw in Hamilton City to start last week, then followed up with a rout of Durham on the road.
Maxwell (1-0-1) who played Redding Christian and Paradise at home on Jan. 17 and 18 respectively provided no statistics.
Girls:
Colusa 7 – Pierce 3 (1/9)
After watching a 3-2 lead dissipate early in the second half, the RedHawks shifted gears to score four unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest and claim a victory in their first Sacramento Valley League action of the season.
Colusa (2-5-3, 1-0) who also had a match in Live Oak on Jan. 11, did not provide any other information.
Conference play continued this week for the RedHawks when they traveled to Winters on Tuesday and hosted Willows on Thursday.

Pierce 0 – Winters 6 (1/11)

In their first match last week at home against Colusa, Brenda Granados scored a brace of goals and Grace Szmurlo chipped in with a goal and an assist, but it wasn’t enough for the Bears to overtake the visitors.
Pierce finished last week in Winters, where they were shutout by the Warriors, the No. 1 ranked team in the Northern Sections’ Division III.
Looking to snap a six-game slide, the Bears (1-9, 0-2) were in Los Molinos on Jan. 16 and Live Oak on Jan. 18.
Maxwell 0 – Hamilton City 6 (1/8)
Maxwell 2 – Durham 2 (1/11)
In just its second season ever, the Panthers opened 2024 with a Mid-Valley League shutout loss in Hamilton City, but bounced back to tie Durham in its second game last week.
The Panthers (0-1-1, 0-1-1) who entertained Paradise on Jan. 18 provided no statistics.
