COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 2 unanimously selected District 4 Supervisor Gary Evans to take the lead in 2023.
Evans, who represents Maxwell, Stonyford, and the norther portion of Williams, served as vice-chairman in 2023 under District 3 Supervisor Kent Boes.
District 2 Supervisor Daurice Kalfsbeek Smith, who voted against her nomination for vice-chairman in 2023, accepted the nomination in 2024, and was voted to the seat unanimously by the board at their first meeting of the New Year.
As his first official duty for 2024, Evans presented outgoing Chairman Kent Boes with a plaque for his “dedicated service and all his willingness to put up with folks in Sacramento.”
“He served with a lot of perseverance,” Evans said.
Evans has served multiple stints as chairman and vice chairman since he was first elected to the board in 2002.
As one of the longest-serving supervisors in history, second only to David Womble, who served 28 years on the Board of Supervisors, Evans has served on multiple committees and commissions over the years. He has introduced and coordinated a variety of projects within Colusa County and has been the county’s primary point man on the Sites Reservoir Project.
Evans did not seek reelection to a sixth term and will officially retire on Dec. 31, 2024.
Smith and Boes are running unopposed for re-election in the March 5 primary.
Serving as vice-chairman in 2024, this will be Smith’s first foray into a leadership position.
After first being elected in 2020, Smith has represented the county on economic development matters, and served on the Flood/FEMA ad hoc committee, the Colusa Groundwater Authority, and several other committees and commissions.
