WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Christopher Miller was sworn in last week as the new Chief of Police for Williams.

Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023.
Miller has more than two decades in public law enforcement experience and has served in every capacity at the Williams Police Department. “It was an easy decision to pick Chris,” said City Administrator Frank Kennedy. “Chris has been here since 2016 and he has held all of the positions along the way. His dedication, his loyalty, and his hard work to the city has
paid off.”
Miller grew up in the Bay Area and became interested in police work after seeing a K9 demonstration as a child. But he also attributed his interest in law enforcement as a
career choice to good role modeling from the father of a close friend, who was a cop.
Miller graduated from the Butte Police Academy in 2002 and came to Williams from the Maryville Police Department.
During his tenure in Williams, Miller served as police officer, sergeant, and detective, before being promoted to lieutenant in 2018 to oversee the field operations division and serve as Police Chief Jim Saso’s second in command.
Saso officially retired on Nov. 24 after 35 years in law enforcement, mostly in service to the Williams Police Department.
Miller said it was Saso’s mentorship over the years that has been key to his advancement in his law enforcement career.
“Law enforcement is a tough job, but being in a community and working for people – and with people – who generally have the same focus and same mission makes it way more
easier. It’s a family.”
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Williams Police Department and was attended by Saso, members of the community, local officials, law enforceme personnel, and Miller’s family, wife April; son, Christopher Miller, Jr., 19, and daughter, Abbey, 16.
“I’m very excited for him – and very proud of him,” said April Miller, after pinning her husband’s badge to uniform. “He worked really hard to get to this point in his career.”
City officials attending the ceremony said they were pleaseMiller accepted the position and are comfortable that he will be a great and loyal leader as the city and Williams Police Department grows and changes over time.
