La Corona Boxing Club Hosts Fight Night

ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – Fans of boxing in Colusa County got a treat last Thursday night when the La CoronabBoxing Club hosted a fight night, including 17 bouts featuring 32 different boxers.

It was an evening combining family, friendship, food and, of course, boxing, designed notonly to simulate the conditions that many of La Corona’s boxers will experience when they venture outside the county to compete in sanctioned contests, but to raise money to offset the costs of those trips.

With a large crowd gathered, La Corona founder Merced Corona opened the proceedings with a welcome and then paid tribute to his friend and longtime supporter of the boxing club, Abel Gonzalez, who recently passed away.

A boxing tradition known as the “10-count” then ensued, with the bell ringing out 10 times in the silent gym.

Yet, the night was about boxing, and the matches that followed brought the spectators to life as they cheered for the fighters who entered the ring.

Varying in age and experience level, each pair in turn had the opportunity to show off their skills and gain valuable experience.

Highlighting the night were the main event bouts, in which two of La Corona’s most experienced fighters, Luvayah Celis and Leilani Bravo squared off against opponents from Sacramento.

The crispness, speed, and location of the punches were an example to the other aspiring boxers of what is possible through hard work and was a fitting close to the annual event.
