COLUSA, CA (MPG) – With the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season just a week away, local businesses are hopeful for a spike in economic activity from Small Business Saturday.

Customers can pick out that special something or have a gift basket made from a wide variety of mostly North State
products and handcrafted gifts.
Among those looking for a boost is one of Colusa’s newest businesses, “Heart to
Home” 611 Market Street, which opened Oct. 1, largely for the holiday season.
“I can’t wait for Christmas,” said co-owner Barbara Gomes “I’m so excited.”
Nov. 25 is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities, according to the U.S. Small Business Association, which has officially co-sponsored the shop-small
campaign since 2011.
Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 as a call to action for local shoppers to step away from big box stores and their laptops and spend some of their holiday shopping dollars in the small businesses
within their own communities.
After Small Business Saturday 2022, American Express reported an estimated $17.9 billion in economic activity for small business in the United States, and that 72% of customers said they would continue to shop at local small
businesses throughout the season.
Heart to Home is a collective of local artists, crafters, soap makers, and specialty food producers, but also offers unique retail items that make shopping for the perfect gift or having a gift basket made “a breeze,” without ever
having to leave town.
The store is also ever-changing with different items coming in regularly, bringing customers back time and again.
“We always have new stuff,” Gomes said. “I like to say we are like a painter’s palette. We paint a different picture every day that we are open.”
Gomes said almost all the store’s products are made or grown in the North State, and the majority come from woman-owned businesses.
In addition to doing something special for customers on Small Business Saturday, Heart to Home will be kicking off the holiday shopping season with their open house this weekend before hoping to make an even bigger splash from 10 am to 6 pm on Small Business Saturday.
While shopping in downtown Colusa on Small Business Saturday, be sure to also stop in Colusa’s Stitches Customs & Embroidery, from 10 am to 3 pm, for refreshments. While there, you can stock up on RedHawks hats as a special
gift or look over the possibilities for your own designs.
Coming off their annual Black Friday sales, don’t leave out Messick Ace Hardware and Kittle’s Outdoor, as both will continue Small Business Saturday traditions with giant promotions and sales.
The BookWorm will also be open from 10 am to 2 pm. And, when out shopping, don’t forget to stop in Colusa’s newest bakery and deli, Crave Café just a few steps away from Heart to Home.
Throughout Colusa County, small businesses remind customers that when they shop locally on Small Business Saturday it infuses money into local economies, promotes vibrant and diverse communities, and celebrates theimportant role small businesses have in the national economy.
