MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – Last Saturday was a historic day for the Maxwell Panthers, who not only hosted a first round match in the 2023 CIF State Girls Volleyball NorCal Division VI Championship for the first time, but also came away with a 25-11, 25-22, 25-21 over visiting No. 3 seeded Stone Ridge Christian of Merced.
Coach Ashley Krug pointed to the play of Fatima Cano and Emma Hendrix in the
middle, along with the defense of Bailee Haywood in the back row, and the serving
of Kennidy Moss down the stretch as keys to the match.
Cano finished with 15 kills and three blocks, Hendrix tallied eight kills, nine assists and four blocks, while Haywood made 15 digs, and Moss had nine digs and served for eight points in the final set.
Also helping to facilitate the win was Shelby Dunlap, who handed out 12 assists.
With the win, the No. 2 seeded Panthers (27-4) made the trip to McArthur on Nov.
14 to take on No. 1 Fall River in a rematch of the Northern Section CIF Division VI
title game, which the Bulldogs won in straight sets.
