
ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – Sacramento Valley League cross country runners couldn’t have asked for better weather on Sept. 27, when they descended on the Arbuckle Golf Course for their second league meet.
Once again, the Colusa RedHawks dominated the varsity races, seeing five finish in the top 10 in both the boys and girls 5,000 meters.
Benji Granados won the boy’s race in a time of 18:15, and was followed by teammates Jose Ceron (19:01) in third, Cesar Cruz (20:35) in fifth, Trenton Griffith (21:15) in seventh, and William England (21:20) in eighth.

Sept. 27.
In the varsity girls’ contest, Colusa’s Rajdeep Shoker ran a personal best of 23:52 as she crossed the line first, ahead of fellow RedHawk Eloise Guererro (26:00), who out-kicked Pierce’s Karina Grajedra (26:17) for second place.
Colusa’s Giselle Valdes (27:11) and Sophia Thompson (30:22) were fourth and seventh respectively, while the Bears’ Carla Moreno (32:09) was eighth, and the RedHawks’ Vianca Cardona (32:47) was ninth.
Pierce and Colusa battled it out in the JV girls two-mile race as well with the Bears’ Grace Szmurlo (18:47) taking first ahead of RedHawks Olivia Stever (19:27) in second, and Mia Cowsert (20:58) in third.
Rounding out the top five in the race was Pierce’s Pamela Vernon (23:00) and Mia Mendoza (27:21).
Willows swept the first four placings in the JV boy’s race, although Colusa’s Karim Cruz (15:15) finished fifth.
Both squads are scheduled to compete in Cottonwood today at West Valley’s Coed Invitational.
