Shirley Marie Rennick passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023 and is now united in heaven with her forever sweetheart Cecil. Shirley was born on December 6, 1946 in Willows, CA to her parents Ed and Marie Morton. She was the fifth in the family of seven children that included Priscilla Kitchens, Danny Morton, Sam Morton, Patty Finks, Darlene Marsh, and Eddy Morton. She spent her younger years in Willows, CA until 3 rd grade when she moved to Maxwell and spent most of her life. She attended Maxwell schools and while in high school she met and fell in love with her true love Cecil. Shirley and Cecil were high school sweethearts and went on to marry and have four beautiful children. They made their home in Maxwell where all their children were graduates of Maxwell High School. They spent several years living in Southern California and the Bay Area while Cecil was in the California Highway Patrol, but after his service ended due to injury, they returned to Maxwell and lived out the remainder of both of their lives.
Shirley worked in different professions throughout her life including a school aide at Maxwell Elementary School, USDA Rice Inspector, Business Owner, and Secretary for Bob Hamilton Insurance. Shirley also volunteered as a catechism teacher at Sacred Heart Church in Maxwell for many years. Shirley’s true calling was that of mother and grandmother. To know Shirley was to know her family was everything to her. She was extremely proud of all her children and grandchildren and made it her life’s work to be a support and guiding light to each one of them. Shirley also had a huge giving heart. If you knew Shirley, you loved her. She had a special way of making a person feel loved and accepted no matter their circumstances. She had many loyal lifetime friends and family who can attest to this.
