Fahey Reelected to Colusa Basin Drainage District
In the first ever election for a seat on the Colusa Basin Drainage District, appointed incumbent Mary Fahey retained her position on the Board of Directors for another four years against challenger Ben King. Colusa County Election Department held the mail-only landower ballot election on Aug. 29, 2023. Of the 1,680 ballots mailed, only 366 were returned for a 21.76% voter turnout, Clerk/Recorder Cristy Edwards reported. Based on acreage represented, Fahey won by 44,929,047 to King’s 23,278.064.
In lieu of Aug. 29 landower elections, the Colusa County Board of Supervisors appointed Clifford A. Myers, James Peterson, and Douglas Parker to four-year terms on the Westside Water District, and Ronald E. Lee to a four-year term on the Holthouse Water District. The directors for all will serve from Dec. 1, 2023 to Dec. 2, 2027.
Food Commodities to be Distributed
The North State Food Bank Emergency Food Assistance Program will distribute commodities for the month of September 2023 during the times designated below or until they are gone, whichever comes first: Sept. 24, from 10 am to noon, at the Maxwell Park and Recreation, 64 Oak St. Maxwell; Sept, 28, 8:30-10:30 am, Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill St, in Colusa; Sept. 29, noon to 1 pm, Williams Family Action Center, 1404 E. St, in Williams; Sept. 29, 11 to noon, Grimes Scout Cabin, 15 So. 4th St.; Oct. 2, Arbuckle Family Action Center, 812 King St. in Arbuckle.
Fallen Soldier Tribute to Honor Local Gold Star Family
The 14th annual Tribute to Fallen Soldier Memorial Torch Motorcycle Ride will come through Williams on Sept. 26 to honor Army PFC Rueben “Boy” Lopez, who was killed on Aug. 11, 2011, while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. The tribute will include a presentation of a memorial plaque of distinguished service to Lopez’s Gold Star family. The motorcycle procession will depart Love’s Truck Stop at 10:15 am and travel via Marguerite Street to the Williams Town Square on 7th and E Streets for a 10:30 AM presentation. The public is encouraged to line the streets to welcome the procession and the torch to Williams to acknowledge the sacrifice of our nation’s service members and pay tribute to the fallen.
Board of Supervisors Make Appointments
The Colusa County Board of Supervisor on Aug. 15 appointed Catherine Marsh and Ana Hass to serve on the Arbuckle Cemetery District Board of Trustees through Aug. 24, 2027. Marsh was last appointed to a four-year term on Aug. 25, 2019. This is Hass’ first appointment to the Board. She will serve through Aug. 14, 2027.
Farm Made Fair Benefits FOCCAS
The second annual Farm Made Fair will be held from 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday Oct. 7. Farm Made Fair is a different kind of craft fair. A vintage barn, full of handmade goods in curated displays. Our team of talented local makers is going to fill the barn: Farmhouse, Garden, Patriotic, Seaside, Flower Market, Harvest, All Hallow’s Eve, Holly Jolly Christmas, and more divisions will be found. Farm grown pumpkins from The Patch will be available for purchase. Admissions collected at the door will be donated to Friends of Colusa County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS). Please bring a cash donation of your choice. Baked goods and a chicken salad croissant lunch will be served at Farm Made Fair’s Blue Ribbon Cafe. The Fair is located just outside of Colusa, heading towards Grimes, off of Sycamore Slough Road. There will be signs posted along the roads the day of the event.
