
After emerging triumphant in a five set thriller over visiting Yreka 23-25, 25-20, 28-26, 18-25, 15-6, the RedHawks fell to Sutter at home the following evening 25-23, 17-25, 14-25, 16-25, then made the trip to Colfax where they kept the Falcons winless on the season with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 25-12 victory.
In the highly competitive match against a scrappy Yreka squad, Colusa’ dynamic all-around duo of Elle Faris and Addison Lay turned in strong performances, while libero Abril Guzman came up big in the back row.
While Faris’s stat line included 14 kills, 17 digs and 16 assists, Lay’s was nearly identical with 13 kills 17 digs and 21 assists.
Guzman accounted for a third of the team’s total digs with 37 and nearly 45 percent of the service receptions with 34.
Yet the RedHawks also got a strong effort from its lone sophomore Cece Mitchum who contributed six kills, 19 digs and 13 service points, as well as from McKenna Azbill with six kills and Allie Reading with four kills and four aces.
Against Sutter, Colusa was outhit by the Huskies 48 to 27 in kills despite Faris tying for the game high with 12.
Lay dished out 14 assists and made 13 digs while Guzman once again led the defense with 28 digs and 44 service receptions.
Also pitching in was Olivia Huskey who recorded 13 digs and Faris with 11 digs.
In Colfax, after splitting the first two sets, the RedHawks took the final two with relative ease, although no statistics were provided.
Colusa (9-5) opened its regular season this week with away matches in Winters and Live Oak respectively.
