COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Colusa Police Department last week served search warrants at several homes, cracking the cases of alleged juvenile vandalism and burglary cases, and arresting one adult in the process.
Colusa Police Lieutenant Sara Martin said the department, with the assistance of the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, Williams Police Department, and Colusa County Probation Department, executed dual search warrants during the morning hours of Aug. 16, at residences located in the 500 block of Clay Street and the 1300 block of Lurline Avenue.
The search warrants were associated with on-going investigations involving several vandalisms and burglaries, which occurred throughout the City of Colusa and included Colusa Unified School District campuses and Colusa Medical Center.
While there were juveniles involved, which limits information that Martin could release, a woman, 36-year-old Eva Marina Barrera-Chanchavac was arrested at her home on Clay Street and booked into the Colusa County Jail on a misdemeanor child endangerment charge and for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
“This summer, there was an increase in juvenile crimes as compared to prior summers,” Martin said. “Sadly, there were parents who were unconcerned about their child’s (children’s) felonious activities.”
Martin said the staff of Colusa Unified School District, particularly the staff at Egling Middle School, was a tremendous help with this case.
“The investigation is still on-going with other possible individuals being charged,” Martin said.
