Some years ago, a friend made to me a column suggestion. Frustrated by our world a bit, he said I should write a column titled That’s Just Wrong. He thought I should address all the many wrongs with which we deal.
It never occurred to me to write a column like that. But, last week, I was reminded of it once again. That same friend’s family is facing tragedy that just didn’t have to happen. His 16-year-old grandson, Aiden, was walking in a crosswalk with his younger brother when he was struck by a van. The police know the driver to have a history of reckless driving.
Why is he still driving? That’s just wrong.
It’s wrong that a known reckless driver is still out there instead of behind bars. It’s wrong that he was still behind the wheel that caused life threatening injury to this young man.
This young family recently moved to Colorado. Without really being settled yet, their lives have been once again uprooted. Now living at a Ronald McDonald House near the hospital, they are seven hours from their new home. A friend set up a GoFundMe page for those of us who might want to help. It’s called Aiden’s Story.
I know firsthand what it means to be helped in crisis. When my late husband David was sick, our Beach, ND, community helped us. There were no GoFundMe accounts back then. These folks just drove up to the bank and deposited money in our account.
Additionally, prayer is key to Aiden’s recovery and survival of the family.
While it’s just wrong that our world includes reckless, ‘no-regard-for-others’ kind of people, it also includes good people. The family is overwhelmed with the kindnesses they are being shown.
Because of that, Life is good today.
