Colusa Community Blood Drive to be held

The First Presbyterian Church of Colusa and Vitalant are holding a Community Blood Drive Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 2-6:15 pm, at 326 Jay St. Colusa. The need for blood and blood products continues and this is a vital service the public can provide for the community. Appointments are recommended to assist with distancing and the efficient running of the clinic.

To schedule an appointment on-line go to donors.vitalant.org and enter the Blood Drive Code SMFM012 or call 530-893-5433. Please complete your Fast Track Health History form on the day of your donation on your smartphone or computer at vitalant.org/health.
Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be 18 years old. Individuals 16 and 17 may donate with a signed parental consent. Donors should eat well and drink plenty of water prior to donating and must bring a photo ID with them.

Board of Supervisors Make Appointments

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 1 reappointed Carole Cain to the College City Cemetery District, effective July 8. She will serve until July 7, 2027. Cain, who has served on the Board of Directors since 2019, was the only applicant.

The board also reappointed Sandra Corbin and John Huttman to the Stonyford-Indian Valley Cemetery District. Corbin and Huttman will serve from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2027. Both have served since 2019. The board reappointed longtime Director Matt Griffith to the Colusa Mosquito Abatement District. Griffith will serve Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, 2027.

How to apply to become a US Citizen

The Colusa County Free Library, in conjunction with US Citizenship Services, will host a free public workshop on “How to Apply to Become a U.S. Citizen” at the Colusa Branch Library, 738 Market St. The workshop will be held from 10-11:30 AM on Saturday, Aug. 19. The workshop will cover requirements, the application process, and the interview and test.
Free study materials will be available. To become a citizen, an applicant must be 18 years or older, have resided in the U.S. for at least five years, and be conversant in English, among other things.
