Highway 20 crash kills motorcyclist

A head-on crash on Highway 20 near Williams last week left a motorcyclist dead and four others injured, according to California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 4:30 PM on July 20, and caused both lanes of the highway to be closed for three hours while the CHP investigated.

The motorcyclist, identified as Torleif Lister Samuelsen, 24, of Seattle, was traveling west on the highway on a 2012 BMW Honda motorcycle, when Richard Broussar, 54, of Westminster, Colo., who was traveling east in a Honda Van, tried to pass another vehicle.

The CHP said Broussar entered the westbound lane at an unknown speed and collided with the motorcycle, causing Samuelsen to receive fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Broussar received major injuries and was transported to Rideout Medical Center. His passengers, Nicol Alonzo, 53, Gena Alonzo, 75, and a 14-year-old girl received minor injuries. All were wearing seatbelts, the CHP said. Nicol Alonzo and the teenager were transported to UC Davis Medical Center.

A 4-year-old girl, properly restrained in a car seat, was not injured but transported to Rideout Medical Center with the others, the CHP reported.

The crash is still under investigation.

The CHP said it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
