Westside major baseball all-stars powering on

In what might be one of the most unusual games ever in the history of District 2 All-Star play, the Westside major’s baseball team endured a mid-game change of venue due to a power outage and had a player hit a home run at both fields as it staged a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Plumas Lake last weekend.

It was an exciting start to the game in Brown’s Valley as Westside’s Louis Minutti hit a leadoff dinger to give his team the early lead, but by the time the power went out in the fourth inning, Westside found itself down 4-2.

However, the drive to the Peach Bowl field in Yuba City in order to finish the game was apparently just what Westside needed as Minutti, a Maxwell native, hit a two-out solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to cut the advantage to one.

While no one is quite sure whether anyone has accomplished Minutti’s feat of hitting two homers in the same game on two different fields, it will certainly go down as one of District 2’s most remarkable moments.

Yet there was still more game to be played, and Westside, capitalizing on its momentum, continued the two-out rally drawing even and pushing the game into an extra frame, before winning in walk-off fashion on a passed ball.

Westside advanced into the championship round, which is to be played this evening. ■
