People from all over Colusa County and from across the Sacramento River congregated in Grimes on Independence Day for the bi-annual Fourth of July Breakfast at the Grand Island Fire Station. Firefighters have been serving the holiday breakfast – rotating each year with the Grimes Independence Day Parade – since 1999. The all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, fruit, burritos, and biscuits and gravy was served at no cost, but donations of all amounts were accepted from generous supporters of the Grand Island Firefighters Scholarship Fund.
