Criminal proceedings will remain halted in the case of a Colusa man charged with attempted murder.
Colusa County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson on Monday ordered Raul Daniel Calderon, 32, to be placed in a state mental institution after a court-appointed psychiatrist determined he was not competent to stand trial or aid in his own defense.
Colusa police officers arrested Calderon after they responded to a call of multiple gun shots fired near the alley at the corner of Bridge and Fremont streets, around 3:15 PM on Jan. 28.
Calderon was still at the location when officers arrived, and had reportedly fired six or seven rounds from an Arma- Lite 15 rifle, officials said.
The alleged victim was no longer at the scene, but was found uninjured later the same day.
The rifle had reportedly been purchased legally, and Calderon was not prohibited from having a gun.
Caderon, who has not entered a plea, is charged with one count of felony attempted murder and a special allegation for discharging a firearm.â–
