
Heavy rain wreaking havoc across Northern California kept the Panther softball team off the diamond for over two weeks. H however, as the skies cleared, Maxwell got in five games at the Biggs Tournament, which ran from March 23-25.
In their first game, the Panthers opened play against an Orland squad that had put up big numbers in its first three games of the year, and that trend continued against Maxwell, as it fell 10-2 to the Trojans.
Emma Hendrix, Ava Barrett, and Bailee Haywood accounted for the Panthers’ only hits in the game.
Yet, Maxwell bounced back later that day by edging Portola 7-6.
Hendrix, Barrett, Shelby Dunlap, Jocelyn Lazarus, Sydnee Wilson, and Allie Wills each had hits, while Haywood earned the win in the circle.
On the tournament’s second day, Maxwell played Burney to a 4-4 draw, but then dropped an 8-2 decision to Loyalton in a game that was called due to darkness.
Barrett stayed hot going 2 for 3 against Burney and additionally recorded a hit against Loyalton.
Lazarus had an RBI single and Ryann Dennis had a knock in the nightcap as well.
Rounding out play in Biggs, the Panthers suffered a 2-6 loss to Quincy.
At the plate, Lazarus went 2 for 2, which included blasting a home run, while Haywood and Wills finished with a hit apiece.
Weather permitting, Maxwell hosted Los Molinos in a Mid-Valley League game on Tuesday, and will complete the series with the Bulldogs on the road this Friday.â–
