Colusa County officials planted flowers and pinwheels at the Colusa County District Attorney’s office on Friday ahead of Child Abuse Prevention month.
Bitsy West, a victim witness advocate, took the lead on the project.
“We planted 48 flowers and 48 pinwheels to represent the 48 children who were victims of child abuse in Colusa County in 2022,” West said.
On Tuesday, the Colusa County Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 2023 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
“If our children are to become productive adults, they should have the right to a childhood free from neglect, physical abuse, sexual molestation, and exploitation,” said Chairman of the Board Kent Boes.
County officials said the observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month provides an excellent opportunity for all citizens to reflect on this tragic crime, while rededicating themselves to taking an active role in child abuse prevention activities in their community. ■
