Colusa Rotary accepting Camp Royal applications

The Rotary Club of Colusa is looking for high school juniors from Colusa County who want to be a part of the 130 young leaders attending Camp Royal this year.

Camp Royal is a place where high school juniors can participate in an incredible leadership experience throughout Rotary District No. 5160.

Last year, over 140 students attended the Camp Royal Leadership Camp, located in the Trinity Mountains north of Hayfork, away from all distractions like cell phones, internet, and social media.

Camp Royal will be held June 5-10, at Bar 717 Ranch.

The club is proud to sponsor students from the community, said Colusa Rotarian Colleen Wrysinski.

Camp Royal is an opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, enhance communication and problem solving, learn from inspirational speakers and mentors, unlock potential, and have fun from lasting friendships.

If interested, high school juniors must complete an application and attach an original essay entitled “Why I Would Like To Attend Camp Royal Youth Leadership Academy.”

Applications can be found at Colusa and surrounding high schools.

Please turn in the application and essay to your school site contact or email it to colleenwrealtor@gmail.com by March 3.

If there is any reason the student cannot attend Camp Royal for the entire time of the camp, they should not apply. Participants cannot leave early for any reason, and must take Rotary-provided transportation to and from the camp.

Previous participants have shared experiences that are beyond what they expected, with group activities that unleashed their potential and helped them overcome obstacles and accomplish tasks they could not do alone.

“I really enjoyed Camp Royal,” said Colusa High School senior Hannah Grimmer, who attended in 2022. “When I first signed up, I didn’t know what I was signing up for, but the experience was truly unique, and what started off as 100 random people became one huge family that I still talk to.”

For more information, contact Wrysinski at (530) 277-7080. The Rotary Club of Colusa is also accepting sponsorships to help cover the cost of the camp, which is $1,050 per student. There is no cost to any student to attend. ■
